A semi-formal essay on the development of the LDAK kids.
In the original mental version of the original story, Pirelli was the only kid of the group. Everyone else was teenagers, or close to it(Ken being 12 but in high school). Then I began to include Kenny in there, since they're the same age and he'd naturally be with Jenni frequently anyway. Then when planning Aspect Keys, I decided to include Ponce.(at the time, there were other ideas for AK characters, but most of that changed). So then it was Kenny, Pirelli, and Ponce always have grown up in Acamina together. Then during DF, we decided that Brian's little sister Rita should be included in the story. And I realized that she'd probably be part of the kid group as well. She had already been somewhat created-Brian, Rita and Anna were all based on a dream, but only Brian was actively included until DF).
Recently in the Acamina thread, Ed, Pirelli's dad, pointed out to Pirelli's mom Leianna that she's become more mature in the last two years. When thinking about it, she has been, along with the others kids. Of course, the teenagers grew up too, but the evolution of the children has more notable development, while the teenagers is all event-based. So this essay is an analysis of exactly how and why Pirelli, Kenny, and Ponce had grown up, along with Rita's influences.(since I do not RP Rita, I can't properly analyze her, but I'll include what is known.
I'll start with Ponce because he's the simplest of the group, and little is publicly known about him anyway. In reality, he's Kenny's friend, and quite a bit of a troublemaker. For somewhat unknown reasons, he really dislikes Brandy and she to him. Despite this, he can behave at times and helps, like when returning things his older brothers had stolen. Also, when telling him about LD, he decided that Pirelli was his girlfriend, and for about a year would tell people that. He was also quite clingy to me at that age.
However, very little is seen of the LDAK Ponce. Minor edits in the original story include him, but the original story is being replaced by the consistent RPed version. That version of Ponce is likely to be very similar to the reality version of Ponce, since little is seen of him anyway. The most of him is seen in AK when with the older kids, where he begins reflecting Brianish traits, which links him to being Brian's Aspect Key.(This had been planned long before Brian hated Brandy, and Ponce naturally disliked Brandy, so it's coincidental consistency)
The final time Ponce is really seen is during HG, but during that time, the only things he really does is be troublesome in the Soggy West, and then helps Kenny welcome a new guy to Lulu Tower right before he's kidnapped by Hidimon and used as a lackey by Realemon. Apparently he survives HG, since Kenny talks about him in DF, and Rita finds his digimon Wabamon. But that's all that's known; Kenny and Rita went to look for him but couldn't find him, or anyone else in the city.
So, the most analysis that can be done is looking at people's comments about Ponce during DF. There's several times when Ponce's referred to as dumb, but those are made by Kenny when controlled by Realemon, and Pirelli's comment in a 6 month old email, when comparing Earthlings to Lerkurlians. He might not be the smartest person in the group, but he can't be as bad as they say. Also, he's still known to be good friends with them, or at least his friends value their friendship. So overall, he's not that bad, just average, and still friends with his childhood friends. And somewhat improved from his young immature state. Or at least based on what is known.
More is known and not known about Kenny, who is also based on a real person. However, I try to keep myself aware of how the real Kenny thinks to compare to the FD Kenny, despite the fact that they're somewhat different people. Therefore, while Ponce was an analysis of anything, Kenny's analysis can primarily be focused on the RPG person.
Like Ponce, little is seen of the LDAK Kenny. He mostly annoyed Jenni, but other than that was 'just there'., Naturally, he'll be more noticeable in the revised LDAK, which will probably end up similar to his HG version, which due to the fact that it was written out instead of mentally acted out, was more focused on how Kenny really acted when he was 10, when I was starting HG(the Kenny in HG was really 12, but that is because I had miscalculated his age, and HG was a little in the future). At that time, I had been noticing that he seemed to be a sponge. He'd act like whoever was near him. He'd be decent and fun around me or Brandy, but trouble with Ponce, and annoying around AJ. I tried to include this as much as I could in HG, but when I noticed I had too many characters, I had him kidnapped along with Ponce, but they found him anyway, so I left him at Lulu Tower.
When it came time for DF, I knew he'd have been caught by Realemon, and somewhat controlled, but since he was only a minor annoyance, wouldn't be as much of a lackey as Brandy. However, since early DF Jenni was mentally broken from too much illusioning, I decided that he'd become rather protective of her. I doubt this trait appeared much in LDAK Kenny, or as much in the real Kenny; however LDAK or real me never was as nutso as DF Jenni, so he might really be that way(Or at least I'd hope so)
Then later when Rita was introduced as a character in DF, I showed Kenny her profile, and his mind instantly went 'I hate her, kill, grr'. I decided to include that as a common trait in Kenny(by this point he was his normal self, but still a little protective). That just caused a lot of fighting for Kenny and Rita, and me realizing that Kenny, Ponce and Pirelli were probably really close friends, while Rita had been introduced into the picture just 2 years before DF. However, as the fighting continued, conspiracies spread, and even the Real Kenny agreed that the two would probably like each other. So then he grew more into being nice to her.
Now by FD, the Real Kenny and FD Kenny are both 14, and I'm still trying to pull in traits, so he feels like a random collection of traits-friendship with the kids, romantic feelings for Rita, old fighting feelings against her, importance of his family, and that troublesome teenager aspect that I forgot teenagers had(I used to be a good little teenager. He's...a boy). Which leaves Kenny to be a mess of things, and one final yet important thing left out. The fact that it was established in AK that he's an Aspect of Ken. I frequently wonder, how in the world did that happen? Was it simply due to the 11 yr old Kenny being somehow similar to the 13 yr old Ken? I doubt that since AK Kenny would still be immature and a sponge. So, I've settled on the idea that he has the potential to be smart. The real Kenny can be really good in school if he applies himself and isn't bored. And always loved science. So, at least for me, it seems to make sense.
So finally that brings me to Pirelli. The girly tombe of the kid group. And like Rita, from a dream. Although the dream version of Pirelli would run into walls on purpose, the LDAK Pirelli didn't do that. She was clueless but endlessly curious. And in the original version, found a D-Terminal and tried exploring the digital world until she got annoyed and then asked the older kids for help. She commonly would do things like that-try until she got stuck and then get help. Yet she was supposed to be the innocent one, mostly due to her age.
By the time I realized that she'd be good friends with Kenny and Ponce, I was also realizing that she wouldn't have gotten along with her mom well at all. Her parents divorced when young, her dad spoiler her, and she always felt ignored by her mom. She dyed her hair purple just to try to attract her mom's attention, even if just protesting that a 5 yr old didn't need purple hair. But it wasn't that her mom ignored her, just that her mom was too distracted by teaching kindergarten to notice everything her daughter did. In later years, her mom didn't notice that Pirelli wasn't a little kid either. So by LDAK, Pirelli wanted to do things on her own, tired of being ignored or treated as if she was 5. She'd hang out with the teenage digidestined, and play her Kenny and Ponce, the kids she'd always known. And then when later including Rita in the picture, she'd become good friend with her as well, as the first girl her age that she'd hang out with(I suspect Jenni would have been friends with Pirelli, but since Jenni's 6 years older than her, it's not the same).
It's during HG that Pirelli has her first notable shift in how she acts. In the early phases, she's the same childish girl who helps the older kids and wants attention. But then along comes Wedge. Or technically, Hidimon tells Pirelli to watch Wedge so he doesn't get caught by Realemon. Pirelli happily does, and is extra friendly to Wedge, which results in the two seriously liking each other when in the Foggy East(while being babysat by Brian). Pirelli focuses on making sure Wedge feels welcome by the group, still being the very social girl that she is. During the HG final battle, she tries to help the best she can, but due to stress and confusion with the D-Porters, gets her and Brian stuck in other dimensions.
So far, the only thing close to actual RPed events from the traveling years is an email Pirelli sent to Jenni and Jasmine while in Lerkurlia. There was a 6 month delay, so they received the email during DF. Based on the email, Pirelli still has a playful childish side, but seems very used to taking over the situation from Brian and trying to control his irrationality. It seems logical that during the two years, since Brian didn't have Wazumi, Pirelli and Canamon had to be the main defense. In addition, with his logic, she'd be the reason anything practical got done. However, she probably didn't let them stay in one place long due to her curiosity (or Brian would just make the situation in that dimension unsafe for them). On the other hand, Brian would probably want to stay if learning how to kill Brandy or do martial arts, which would annoy her unless she had something else she could be learning from there. Finally by the time they arrive in Lerkurlia, they are able to get themselves set on the right track back to earth to help the others.
Which brings us to their arrival in DF. In the middle of a battle between Wedge's group and Jasmine's group(with Brandy just causing trouble for fun). Pirelli does what is natural to her and takes her friends out of the dangerous environment, which is taking jasmine and the people she knew from HG and taking them to Acamina. There she's finally properly reunited with Wedge, and travels with him for a while. However, she still feels loyal to her friends as well, so once again tries to bring him back into the group. However, overall her feelings for Wedge are stronger than for the others-at times she'd stay with him rather than go with her friends to do things. This is confirmed with her engagement at the end of DF, and staying with him when her friends go to Lerkurlia.
Even though things are still very early into FD, Pirelli's already grown a lot compared to DF. She helps Wedge settle things with his group and base for a while, then when ready to go to Lerkurlia, she points out that she wants to tell her dad what's been going on. She always had been able to get along better with her dad compared to her mom, so feels more reason to be nice to him. This trust is almost broken when Pirelli and Wedge go to New York, and her dad points out that he's a digimon, and works for Daemon. When things finally settle down, she's able to trust her dad more when he decides to help Pirelli and forget about working for the Demon Lords. They stay at Jasmine's apartment for the night, but in the morning, Pirelli's mom attacks. Pirelli finally has to explain things to her mom, but her mom's still too stuck in her mental views to listen, thinking that a kid's place is at school. With her dad and Wedge's help, Pirelli finally decides to break the link between her and her mom, knowing she'd never be allowed to be herself or grow up and do the things she needs to do. Of course, still being just a teenage Pirelli, she cries afterwards, but at least she did the things she needed to first before.
It's fun to think about how the kids have in general grown up. In LDAK, they were just three kids who always played together and at times did their proper Digidestined work. By FD, Pirelli's really grown up and taking action, Kenny's trying to get along with Rita and help her in her inexperience with being a Digidestined and in a new dimension, and Ponce...well, if we knew where he was, he'd probably be wondering where his friends are and try to help them. It's possible that FD will last a very long time in-game. It'll be interesting to see how the kids, actually teenagers, grow up from this point in their lives.
