There seems to be a lot of changes over the past few decades regarding political correctness, especially in the U.S. Cultural "diversity", feminism, the Gay Rights Movement... all contributed in different aspects to this. However, there are too many examples of how modern political correctness is causing more offense. Maybe not publicly, but it's there, and it WILL come out someday to bite them in the ass. Can't blame America though, it's still a relatively new country.
Religious families in the U.S. who own a business use to put up Christmas-related decorations. Apparently, others thought it was offensive to them, so the business was ordered to take it down or face legal action. Now it's America. The one country in the world you'd expect to be so culturally acceptant... why then are cultures such as Christianity being to suppressed? Why do they need to be hidden from public? What's so wrong about being exposed to different different cultures? Doesn't anyone see what's wrong with getting offended by SEEING someone else enjoy their culture?
Gay "marriage" is another hot issue. But if humans use logic, it wouldn't be. First of all, homosexuals just want equal rights. That's a valid motivation... but they went about it all wrong. I know comming from an Atheist, it sounds unusual, but I think each aspect of religion should be preserved, and marriage is an aspect. Now granted marriage came with a lot of rights to straight couples that weren't available to homosexual couples, but that is no reason to try to redefine it. That not only insults strongly religious individuals, but it also breaks down diversity. Homosexuals DO need to gain equal rights as the rest of us, that shouldn't be up for debate. But they should "create" a new legal relationship structure that contains the same rights as the marriage system, and should be accepted as equals in every respect.
Ah, and feminism. Once it was a respectable idea. Women getting to vote, being accepted in the workplace, etc. But nowadays, feminism is just a word that means just a movement for women to imitate men. Everyone is getting confused on what should be considered a right for everyone, and something that is more suited for males. One of which is this "sexual freedom" that women seem to think they have... they're not even respecting themselves any more to realise how wrong that is. Casual sex is common to them now, which is an insult to what feminism was meant for. Equality between the sexes is very important, but women are mistaking equality as needing to be the exact same as their sexual opposites.
And finally, I come to the issue with "nerds" geeks" and the like that are the most hurt by the collective political movement. Society is growing to accept that the "socially impaired" population should know their place, shut up and be submissive, bullied, and otherwise second-class citizens. The current accepted social structure dictates that an individual, only male interestingly enough, liking anything that's enjoyable indoors, such as computers, video gaming, and various DnD-esque games as a social outcast. The female versions of this apparently have to include being generally "unattractive" or overweight. In school, it's encouraged to ridicule these kids, turning the victims often emotionally scarred, and even vengeful, one of which case led to the Columbine High School massacre around 8 years ago.
The social outcasts are also often stereotyped themselves. One of which stereotype states that the male social outcasts are all virgins. This I believe is a direct result of modern feminism. Women are encouraged to sleep around and have no interest in the decent-minded, intelligent guys that're considered social outcasts. But when those boys grow up to their 30s or even 40s, when they become "successful", they're "allowed" to settle down with these tombety, poor excuses for women and have families. As for female "social outcasts", the situations are much worse. Those poor girls are either overweight and get ridiculed by even other outcasts, or they're relatively "good looking" and either they're ridiculed for not having any sexual experience(again, the fault of socially acceptable female promiscuity), or they can throw away their values and morals and gain popularity by being sexually acive. This social structure is downgrading human interaction to nothing more than primitive animal mating rituals commonly seen on the Discovery Channel.
And that is why I disagree with most politics today. I apologize if I only mentioned American politics, but I'm from America, and I don't know much about other countries. Also, I apologize if I offended anyone with this, but this is how I feel about everything.
Discuss.
