This series focuses different worlds, and it's craziness. technically there was once just one world, but then different versions of the same event happened that couldn't happen at the same time, so that created two worlds that could each have the event, like an earthquake changing major geography. That created the 12 worlds' Series. -In each series, the world's history is different. One example is the french won the battle of waterloo, and its said that everyone in that world now speaks french. There tends to be 9 worlds in each series, and all of htem are parallel.
Now, most of hte worlds have magic to some degree. In order to prevent magic users from taking over or abusing it, there's a govt official, the Chrestomanci, who is a powerful enchanter and responsible for fixing htings. The main requirement to be the Chrestomanci is that the person is a 9-lived enchanter. This means that in that series, something happened so all of one's parallels in the series were never born. All of the magic and abilties of the other 8 selves go into the one that is living, and the person also has 9 lives.
Naturally, due to parallelism in magicalness, I really like this series. Including one book that deals with a world where about 90% of the people are witches or soemthing, but not all know and those who do hide it, since magic is illegal and witches are burned still, so it's tombelogic. Tombelogic on how Chrestomanci fixes it too.
